Measuring Tips to Assure The Best Fit

Bust

With arms at sides, place tape measure under your arms and run it around the fullest part of the bustline and across the shoulder blades.

Waist

Find the natural crease of your waist by bending to one side. Run tape measure around your natural waistline, keeping one finger between the tape and your body for a comfortable fit.

Hips

With feet together, run tape measure around the fullest part of your hips/seat, about 7 to 8 inches below your waistline.

Inseam

For full-length pants, run tape measure along the inside of your leg, from just below the crotch to about 1 inch below the ankle.

As we are an independent and only produce small quantities our sizes vary slightly from style to style.

All garments have been carefully measured, therefore to ensure the very best fit, we suggest taking your own body measurements, whilst wearing light-weight clothing/ underwear and standing up straight, and compare these to our size chart.

This skirt is non-stretch, therefore to ensure you choose the correct size please refer to our size guide at the top.

Our classic swishy Bonny skirt, is made from an easy care, warm feel woven Black Watch tartan. She has lashings of fabric and all the checks have been carefully matched on the seams. There is a side zip which fastens with a rustic silver metal button and loops on the waist so you can wear with/without your own belt with size pockets too.

This skirt looks great worn on it’s own but can be dressed up by popping one of our black petticoats underneath to create the perfect 50s look. The petticoat is sold separately.

Material: 65% Polyester, 35% Viscose

Machine wash 30 degrees and separately

The total length of the skirt is 29″, but the length of the skirt section is 27″

    I absolutely love this beautiful skirt – it’s flawlessly made, the fabric is lovely, and it’s the perfect length and shape. My only issue is with the sizing. We all know how women’s clothing sizes fluctuate between vendors, and I take either an 8/small or, more often, a 6/x small, depending on the shop. In proportion to my other measurements, my waist is quite narrow. However, this skirt in an 8 is extremely tight on the waist – and continues to be so even after I moved the buttons a little for some extra room. I don’t own a single item of clothing in a 10, but I would definitely go with the 10 if I was buying from British Retro again (and I do intend to!). Just thought that was worth sharing for other customers :)
