British Retro Vintage Fashion - Wonderland WarmthWe are all set for a long, bitterly cold winter (apparently), so, I’m stocking up on all the stuff that keeps me feeling cosy when the mercury drops (Brandy, dark chocolate and bubble bath, if you must know). I love the winter months, Halloween, Bonfire Night, Christmas, Hogmanay… it’s just an extended period of shindigs and feasting, why wouldn’t I love it?

One thing bothers me a little, though – how do I stay warm without losing the stylish, vintage vibe I like to perfect? Once inside that restaurant, nightclub or party you know you’ll be bathed in the warm glow that comes from dancing, laughing and copious amounts of grog! But getting there and getting home afterwards will be chilly. A darling little dress like this All Souls Rockabilly Pencil Dress will be a scream at a Halloween party, but I don’t fancy getting goosebumps on the way to and from the club. I need something in keeping with my vintage style to wear, if only I could find me a decent 1950s evening coat…

New for winter 2019, our Wonderland 1950s coat in winter ice blue is the coat Julie Christie should have worn in Dr Zhivago. That ice blue tone and pale faux wolf fur collar and cuffs would have been perfect for a night in the snow-filled dacha with Omar Sharif. Vodka, mushing huskies and watching the icicles melt beneath the aurora borealis, heaven! I bet that moustache tickled like crazy…

A fur collar on a coat adds another level of glamour to your vintage look, although I guess that those original Hollywood costumes featured the real beastie – no chance of that here, lady! Why have something as cruel as Joan Crawford draped over your neck when you can have something delightfully soft and less blood-thirsty instead? You can still channel some serious feline sensuality a la Janet Leigh in Holiday Affair. Oh my, Robert Mitchum… Where was I? Oh yes, the faux fur collar on our divine 50s evening coat in charcoal could make anyone of us into a film noir femme fatal. The coat is cruelty-free so you don’t have to be.

If a 1950s full-circle Christmas dress is your signature look then you really need a winter coat that will accommodate the full swing of the circle skirt. Our 1950s evening coat is based on an original design of the era, so it has been created with the iconic swing dress in mind. It’s nipped in at the waist and has a full flowing skirt to mimic the silhouette of the classic 50s swing dress. Dee Dee, our ever popular houndstooth full circle dress would look striking when combined with our Wonderland 1950s evening coat in ruby; a zingy Technicolour riot to bring something vibrant to the dark nights.

Oh I love me some leopard print, I swear Bet Lynch could be my spirit animal. I jest! Leopard print has a reputation as the pelt of choice for the cougar, but it still remains a by-word for classy chic with carnal undertone. Wonderland Coat in black with a contrast leopard faux fur collar and cuffs is a luxurious example of this feline phenomenon. You want to stroke her but you might get clawed to pieces, but still you can’t resist…

All of our British Retro Wonderland coats are made in Britain and based upon an original 1950s evening coat design. Made with love, by hand, and in strictly limited numbers for the most refined (and not at all shivery) vintage babes.
